My most significant job that I have held was at Children’s Home Society, working with children with attachment trauma. These children for one reason or another, had the attachment process with their primary caregiver interrupted, which then caused considerable problems with their growth, behavior, and learning.
What was needed was to go back and redo those attachment processes with a stable, loving, and nurturing caregiver. Redoing these things requires the child and the adult to be having fun, which is often tough to create when a child has attachment trauma and wants to take control of everything and everyone. The games that the parent and child play together make up a type of therapy called Theraplay which I have quite a bit of experience in. Someday I might actually get a certification in it but for now, if your child has attachment trauma, I can facilitate some pretty fun games that will connect you to your child! And my experience helps me know how to get around some of the control issues that kids can have.
